Heavy-duty vehicle
Event Data Recorder

Background

Heavy-duty vehicle manufacturer’s obligation to meet the EU vehicle legislation, including the new Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/2220. This focuses heavily on mandating Event Data Recorders (EDRs) based on UN Regulation No. 169 (UNR 169)

Challenges & Requirements

Required a reliable system to capture pre- and post-crash vehicle data, including shock, vibration by integrating CAN-FD, GNSS, and IMU inputs. The solution needed to comply with UNECE R169, ensure tamper-proof data storage, and deliver reliable performance in harsh fleet environments.

    iWave Scope of Work:

  • Crash detection and Data logging: Capturing key vehicle parameters before, during, and after a crash such as speed, acceleration, braking, steering, engine data, seatbelt and airbag status, and time stamps to enable accurate incident analysis.
  • Event data Interfaces: Collecting data from in built IMU sensor and the broadcasting signals from CAN port.
  • Secure Element Integration: Ensured data integrity using cryptographic authentication and secure time stamping.
  • Storage capacity: 8GB eMMC non-volatile memory expandable up to 64GB to retain data.
  • Certifications & Compliance: Shock and Vibration Qualified, CE, FCC certified. Supported validation and documentation for UNECE R169 alignment
