The Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC System on Module (SoM) delivers direct-RF sampling, ultra-low-latency processing, and wide instantaneous bandwidth capabilities that are essential for modern EW systems. iWave’s RFSoC SoM packages these capabilities into a production-ready platform optimized for EW use cases such as signal interception, classification, and agile jamming.

Customer Background

A global defense technology company specializing in EW and tactical signal intelligence systems was developing a next-generation platform focused on real-time signal detection, jamming, and spectrum monitoring. The system demanded a high-performance, reconfigurable RF processing solution capable of handling wideband signal acquisition and transmission with minimal latency.

Challenges & Requirements

The customer needed a cost-optimized, production-ready SoM that met both technical and delivery requirements for their mission-critical EW platform. The system required high-speed ADC/DAC performance, low power operation, and deterministic latency for real-time signal interception and jamming. In addition to hardware capability, the project demanded a technically qualified supplier with proven RF domain expertise, strong engineering support, and the ability to ensure consistent lead time and delivery for volume production.

  • Cost Optimized RFSoC Solution: Delivered a tailored ZU49DR RFSoC SoM configuration meeting both performance and target price constraints.
  • RF Expertise & Validation: Leveraged in-house RF testing and validation infrastructure to ensure product reliability and signal integrity.
  • High-Speed RF ADC & DAC: Integrating 16-channel 12-bit RF ADCs operating up to 2.058Gsps and 14-bit RF DACs achieving up to 6.554Gsps, enabling direct RF
    digitization and generation.
  • Custom Carrier Card Design: Designed and delivered custom carrier card within 16 weeks to meet project specific requirements.
  • Production & Lead time: Supporting the customer’s forecast of hundreds of SoMs annually with reduced lead time, ensuring timely delivery.
