FAQs

A Telematics Control Unit (G26) is an embedded automotive computing system designed to collect, process, and communicate vehicle data. It interfaces with vehicle networks such as CAN, GNSS, sensors, and wireless connectivity to provide real-time vehicle information and remote communication. TCUs enable applications such as fleet management, vehicle tracking, diagnostics, connected vehicles, EV telematics, and electronic logging. They provide a software-flexible platform for securely transferring vehicle data between the vehicle and cloud services.. For complete hardware and software specifications, refer to the datasheet.

The Telematics control unit(G26) is designed for a wide range of applications, including:

  • Fleet Management & Vehicle Tracking
  • Electric Vehicle (EV) Telematics
  • Diesel Generator (Genset) Monitoring
  • Electornic logging devices
  • Industrial Equipment Monitoring
  • Remote Asset Tracking
  • Commercial Vehicle Diagnostics

Telematics control unit(G26) is powered by the NXP i.MX6ull processor running at 900MHz and operates on Embedded Linux (Yocto 5.0).

The device performs edge data processing, including protocol decoding, event detection, and secure data transmission. By processing data locally, it reduces bandwidth consumption, minimizes latency, and enables faster response times, making it ideal for real-time telematics and connected vehicle applications.

Yes. Telematics Control Unit supports Standby Mode (~10 mA) offering wake source including ignition, CAN, Timer, and Accelerometer.

The Telematics control unit(G26) runs on an Embedded Linux platform based on Yocto. Customers receive a complete Board Support Package (BSP), including the Yocto source, Linux kernel source, and base BSP implementation.

To simplify application development, iWave provides software libraries with APIs for accessing the available hardware peripherals, along with comprehensive API documentation and user manuals.

Customers have full access to the source code and are free to customize or modify the Linux kernel and BSP to meet their application requirements.

Complete flexibility is given to build custom Telematics applications covering data acquisition, edge analytics, protocol conversion , event processing and securely connect with various cloud platforms. It allows developers to integrate end use case specific edge features such as power management, network management and over-the-air (OTA) updates

Yes. The Telematics control unit(G26) supports 3 CAN ports (2xHS CAN,1xFD CAN), and automotive-standard protocols including J1939, OBDII, and UDS over CAN.

It enables real-time acquisition of engine diagnostics, fuel consumption, battery status, fault codes, and other vehicle parameters.

Yes. Telematics control unit(G26) supports Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware and software updates through integration with OTA frameworks such as Mender, OSTree, Memfault or any other OTA client.

OTA functionality can be implemented as a custom solution based on your application and cloud infrastructure requirements, enabling secure remote deployment of firmware and software updates to devices in the field.

Telematics control unit(G26) platform supports security features such as Secure Boot, Secure Storage, Secure CAN communication, and other cybersecurity capabilities that can be implemented based on customer-specific requirements. These features help protect the device and its data in connected vehicle and IoT applications.
