Customer Background

A leading data center operator managing large-scale cloud and enterprise workloads aimed to enhance network throughput, minimize CPU overhead, and achieve greater scalability. Their infrastructure supported high-speed data transfers, virtualized environments, and storage-intensive applications that demanded ultra-low latency and exceptional reliability.

Challenges & Requirements

The customer needed a SmartNIC solution that could handle large data center workloads with ultra-low latency and high-speed performance. The solution had to provide 200G network speed, take over complex data processing from the CPU, and support scalable virtualization. The main challenges included optimizing power efficiency, maintaining deterministic latency for real-time traffic, and ensuring compatibility with existing server infrastructure. It also demanded robust security, flexible reconfigurability, and reliable PCIe Gen5 connectivity for seamless data acceleration.

    iWave Scope of Work:

  • Hardware Design & Development: iWave engineered the Agilex™ 7 SmartNIC with dual QSFP-DD ports supporting up to 200GbE, PCIe Gen4 x16 interface, and on-board NVMe slots for storage acceleration. The design incorporated advanced transceivers and power optimization circuits to ensure reliable operation under heavy workloads.
  • Firmware & Software Integration: Developed optimized FPGA logic and driver stack to offload networking, security, and storage functions from the host CPU. Enabled seamless integration with DPDK and OFS frameworks for efficient data handling and real-time processing.
  • Production Support: Delivered production-ready SmartNIC qualified for industrial-grade performance, ensuring scalability for volume deployment across multiple data center nodes.
