The Sidelink Synchronization Signal (SLSS) is a mechanism in C-V2X communication, enabling vehicles and roadside units to maintain robust and reliable timing alignment even in GNSS challenged environments. SLSS enables continuous timing synchronization over PC5, ensuring dependable V2X operation even in GNSS unavailable scenarios.

Customer Background

The customer is a Japan-based company whose application is used for ambulance operations across highways, urban roads, and tunnel networks. They required technologies that ensure reliable communication and precise timing, even in GNSS challenged environments

Challenges & Requirements

The customer required a compact On-Board Unit (OBU) equipped with C-V2X radio, Wi-Fi, and 5G connectivity. In addition, the solution needed to support SLSS functionality and enable reliable communication. They were seeking a powerful, fully integrated hardware platform combined with a robust communication stack.

    iWave Scope of Work:

  • Supply of V2X On-Board Unit: DDelivery of production ready and completely validated V2X On-Board Unit with all necessary peripherals, standard harness cable and antenna.
  • Integration with SLSS mode: Our solution includes complete firmware support for GNSS-independent time synchronization through SLSS mode.
  • SLSS Synchronization Test setup: The RSU receives the GNSS feed and broadcasts SLSS synchronization frames, while the OBU (without GNSS) receives the frames and synchronizes its C-V2X timing from the RSU, verified by the C-V2X status changing from suspend to active once synchronization is achieved..
  • Software & BSP Support: DThe RSU receives the GNSS feed and broadcasts SLSS synchronization frames, while the OBU (without GNSS) receives the frames and synchronizes its C-V2X timing from the RSU, verified by the C-V2X status changing from suspend to active once synchronization is achieved.
  • Integration with V2X Stack from partner: Integrated a partner V2X Stack and completely supported on the technical validation and integration.
