iWave Expands RF Solutions Portfolio with Zynq™ UltraScale+™ RFSoC DFE System on Module (ZU67/ZU65/ZU64/ZU63DR RFSoC)

iWave Global, a leader in embedded compute and RF-enabled System on Modules (SoMs) launched iG-G79M, a Zynq™ UltraScale+™ RFSoC Digital Front End (DFE) System on Module built on the ZU67, ZU65, ZU64, and ZU63DR RFSoC family. The new SoM strengthens iWave’s RF solutions portfolio by delivering a cost-effective, high-performance adaptive radio platform for next-generation wireless infrastructure.

Designed for applications such as 5G NR radio units, small cells, fixed wireless access, and massive-MIMO base stations, the iG-G79M enables customers to accelerate development while meeting stringent performance, latency, and scalability requirements.

Powered by AMD’s Zynq™ UltraScale+™ RFSoC DFE architecture, the iG-G79M integrates direct RF sampling, high-density programmable logic, and specialized DFE IP blocks on a compact SoM. This architecture enables wide instantaneous bandwidth, low-latency digital signal processing, and exceptional hardware adaptability, significantly reducing system complexity and total cost of ownership for modern 5G deployments.

The module’s dual 400-pin board-to-board approach enables modular integration into carrier boards and VPX-style enclosures for both compact radios and rack-based gateway equipment. This combination makes the iG-G79M well suited for small cells, fixed wireless access units, digital IF transceivers, and multi-antenna macrocell elements that require both performance and cost efficiency.

Why RFSoC DFE Matters for 5G

AMD’s RFSoC DFE family is built for the next wave of 5G, combining performance, efficiency, and flexibility in a single adaptive radio platform. It supports high instantaneous bandwidth for both FR1 and FR2 deployments and enables direct-RF and wideband IF processing, reducing analog complexity and system cost. With hardened DFE IP blocks for key 5G functions, it delivers higher throughput at lower power than FPGA-only designs. Its adaptable architecture allows OEMs to update radio features for evolving use cases such as eMBB, URLLC, and mMTC without major hardware changes, helping accelerate deployment while reducing total cost of ownership.
